Rush Hospital to Discontinue Accepting BCBSIL individual plans, accept Harken Health Plans in 2016
Like other notable hospital systems in Illinois such as Northwestern and University of Chicago, Rush University Health Systems will not be accepting BCBSIL individual PPO plans in their as in-network plans. They are not alone as most of the academic medical centers in Chicago are excluded from the BCBSIL plans available on the marketplace. What is surprising is that Harken Health, a new plan entering the Illinois marketplace in 2016, will be offering the only individual plans accepted by Rush Health Systems beginning January 1st, 2016.
Harken Health offers somewhat new approach to health insurance by offering unlimited, free office visits on every plans at 4 designated medical centers in Cook County. It is partially owned by United Healthcare but considered a completely separate company, but uses United Healthcare Choice Plus PPO network, which is one of the largest in the nation. The one caveat is that Harken Health plans will only be offered to individuals residing ONLY in Cook County. It is not available to individuals living in any other county, regardless of proximity.

The four warm and inviting Harken Health Centers will hold open houses throughout November and December and be open to care for new members Jan. 1, 2016. The Health Centers are located in Des Plaines, Edgewater, South Loop and Wicker Park.
